McCain wants to TAX your health care insurance

Do you know that McCain Obama wants to tax your health care insurance. Yes he does! Isn’t that so special!! How thoughtful of him — he wants to make sure that everyone (except him) in America has crappy health care.

Well back on 11 September 2008 there is outrage — OUTRAGE — in the blogasphere — McCain wants to tax your health care insurance — here’s a sample from Joe Klein of Time:

Today’s issue: health insurance. John McCain wants to tax your employer-provided health care benefits. He wants to replace those benefits with an insufficient tax credit–$2500 for individuals and $5000 for families (the average cost per family for health insurance is $12000).

There is a positive, progressive tax aspect to this: wealthier people should have to pay for health insurance themselves, without tax breaks from the federal government.

But make no mistake: this plan will do little or nothing for those who do not have insurance now–unless they are young and healthy–and it may well hurt a fair number of workers, especially unionized workers, who get gold-plated benefits from their employers.

It will certainly do nothing for families with members who have pre-existing conditions or children with special needs–because it makes no provision to regulate the insurers, forcing them to cover all comers at “community” rates that don’t discriminate against the people who need health insurance most.

It is amazing to me that Obama campaign has let things go this far without pointing out that McCain–who opposes the energy bill because it would increase taxes on oil companies–is actually proposing a tax increase on health care benefits for American workers. But that is precisely what the Senator from Arizona is doing.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama hammered John McCain on the issue of taxes today, while speaking in Dover, NH. Obama specifically pointed out that McCain’s healthcare plan would tax workers’ health insurance benefits.
Obama is quoted in the link above as saying:
“And I can make a firm pledge: under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 will see their taxes increase – not your income taxes, not your payroll taxes, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes. My opponent can’t make that pledge, and here’s why: for the first time in American history, he wants to tax your health benefits Apparently, Senator McCain doesn’t think it’s enough that your health premiums have doubled, he thinks you should have to pay taxes on them too. That’s a $3.6 trillion tax increase on middle class families. That will eventually leave tens of millions of you paying higher taxes. That’s his idea of change,”
Obama is a “different” kind of politician — a sort of un-politician Politician. Can we say — business as usual — you 0bots have been had.

Obama backs high-end health plan tax

President Barack Obama signaled to House Democratic leaders Wednesday that they’ll have to drop their opposition to taxing high-end health insurance plans to pay for health coverage for millions of uninsured Americans.

In a meeting at the White House, Obama expressed his preference for the insurance tax contained in the Senate’s health overhaul bill, but largely opposed by House Democrats and organized labor, Democratic aides said. The aides spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting was private.

DOUBLE STANDARDS

The 0bot bloggers and the media that enabled 0bama in the 2008 are now strangely quiet. If taxing health care insurance was a bad idea from Senator McCain then it should be a BAD idea from 0bama and the DEMOCRATS. Remember that the DEMOCRATS OWN this Health Insurance Bill — it is theirs, 100% theirs.

It is being speculated that in the end most employer provided health care may be taxed so that everyone (except Congress and da Prez) have equally crappy Health Insurace.

Why the rush to get this POS bill on 0bama’s desk? In time for HIS state of the Onion Union Speech.

“Obama has defended the tax as a way to drive down health costs.”

Cost for who?? This POS Bill is going to cost the US public lots of money — and it will make a whole lot of Health Insurance Company CEOs very rich as well as Stock Holders.

It seems to me that Joe Klein’s objections to McCain’s proposed tax on gold plated health care insurance apply to 0bama’s plan to tax employer provided health insurance — seems sort of obvious. Perhaps Klein needs to dust off his old blog about McCain and change McCain to Obama. Here I’ll make it easy:

But make no mistake: this plan will do little or nothing for those who do not have insurance now–unless they are young and healthy–and it may well hurt a fair number of workers, especially unionized workers, who get gold-plated benefits from their employers.

It will certainly do nothing for families with members who have pre-existing conditions or children with special needs–because it makes no provision to regulate the insurers, forcing them to cover all comers at “community” rates that don’t discriminate against the people who need health insurance most.
