Write your congress critter re Amash’s amendment

So it seems like I’m on a roll. Senators are easy — only two and none of the stupid gerrymandering like we deal with in Congressional districts. But there are many internet search options to help you locate which congressional district your voting address falls in. I had to do this since the boundaries had been radically redrawn. Anyway here’s the email I just sent regarding the Amash amendment.

I resent that the USG/NSA is collecting all data for all citizens. I also resent the fact that all citizens are now considered as “suspects”. Since this is my tax dollar being used to spy and create vast databases of stolen digital files I am requesting that you vote for — Amash’s amendment, which stops the NSA from collecting data under the Patriot Act, – See more at: http://www.emptywheel.net/#sthash.5HOcKCJu.dpuf

Any Congressperson who cares about being lied to by the military NSA data collection should be reading emptywheel.com

I grew up in the military — my father retired from the military when I was in college, during the Vietnam war. So I am well aware that the military lies about everything. Rarely is the military truthful about anything when talking to the civilian press. As a child I was taught to never tell “civilians” anything. It because clear to many of us navy brats that the military would lie about the most mundane subjects. We knew that if we told the whoopers told by the military spokesmen that we would have had our behinds hit with a belt. So as a former military brat I can spot a military lie a mile away.

What the military NSA is doing is unconstitutional. What they are doing is against their oath of office and it is against your oath of office. If the NSA is allowed to continue — business as usual — then President Jimmy Carter continues to be correct when he says the US is no longer a functioning democracy.

Your oat of office –“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic”.

Sincerely,  NWR

Marcy Wheeler is in top form in the truth telling department.

Buried at the bottom of a broader story on opposition to the Amash-Conyers amendment, CNN offers a very solicitous account of the White House statement opposing it, making no note of how absurd the entire premise is.

The White House issued a statement Tuesday evening, saying that it opposes the amendment and urges the House to reject it. “In light of the recent unauthorized disclosures, the president has said that he welcomes a debate about how best to simultaneously safeguard both our national security and the privacy of our citizens,” the statement said. “However, we oppose the current effort in the House to hastily dismantle one of our intelligence community’s counterterrorism tools. This blunt approach is not the product of an informed, open, or deliberative process.”

Count Obama among the lying liars.
