NSA & music industry & copyrights

Rorschach test

If every little digital bit of everyone’s Internet activity now exists in massive NSA databases — then does that mean that NSA is in violation of copyright laws? We’ve all heard about and read the stories of the music industry’s efforts to protect their cash cows — the music that some people download. I personally don’t know much about this because I’ve always bought my music and I never did trust the “file sharing” that was so popular not that long ago.

There is a lot of copyright material that is sent over the Internet — and it seems that our personal words and thought that we share with others should be recognized as copyright material. We need to be careful to keep our quotes to a minimum and to be sure to link and/or credit the source of the quote.

Seems like there is a major double standard — but then that’s what happens under a military dictatorship. Martha Stewart goes to jail for “insider” trading and the Wall Street crooks and banker get bailed out by the US tax payers.

Then there are the NRA databases and mailing lists — I’ll bet all that is in a searchable database. First the government takes ownership of women’s uteri — which has happened — women’s bodies were strictly controlled by religious fanatics and it is happening again on a state level. Now the USG is spying on all of us — with or without the uterus. Hey guys how does it feel to be treated like women have for thousands of years?

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn’t a Jew.

When they came for me,

there was no one left to speak out.

This is one of several versions on Wikipedia.

A modern version might be:

First they came for women of child bearing age. But most remained silent.

When they came for the whistleblowers — Most people remained silent or joined the mob and demanded the “traitors” be locked up.

When they came for the hackers and techies because they saw what their government was dong. Most people remains silent or joined the mob and demanded the “traitors” be locked up.

When they came for the Occupy protesters and the environmental activists and the Quakers and the rest of the Pacifists — the silence was overwhelming.

When they came for me,

there was no one left to speak out.
