Oklahoma again – sun revolves around earth

Well not that old religious belief but another one about Climate Change and the politicians are “a fearing” that the children in Oklahoma might be taught real science in school. OMG that can never happen in Oklahoma. Tornadoes and drought are due to the will of God. Apparently a few science teachers — real science teachers with degrees from real Colleges that teach real hard core science want to have science teaching standards. Nope that can not happen in Oklahoma — the knuckle dragging politicians are saying — no science is to be taught in Oklahoma schools. Because you heathen science believing teachers from Satan’s colleges might mention the established scientific fact that yes humans do contribute to Global Warming aka Climate Change.

Wyoming has already passed a law forbidding teaching science. Apparently kids are given a list of stuff to believe in which is approved by the knuckle dragging Wyoming politicians. The reach of the oil and gas money reaches right into the teaching of mythology as science. Climate change cannot be treated as fact. Kids aren’t supposed to learn about the fast track melting of ice in Antarctica.  What about the kids who are smart enough to do their own research? Kids can go online and read news and perhaps even to study for subjects their dumb as rocks teachers won’t talk about in the classroom.

According to a speech by another politician in Washington, D.C. who happens to be a Democrat and former comedian — the same think tanks who produced “scientists” who claimed there was no scientific evidence that Tobacco caused cancers are now producing producing “scientists” who claim that Global Warming doesn’t exist. These same conservative think tanks are now being funded by the corporations who are helping to increase global warming.

This is actually an interesting area. There is a well-established link between the scientists who have worked for think tanks such as George C. Marshall Institute, Heartland Institute, and other foundations, which were funded at first by tobacco money and, since then, by the fossil fuel industry. These scientists have been paid to spread misinformation in order to cast doubt. That is all they have to do–on a whole host of scientific issues–first, tobacco and acid rain, the hole in the ozone layer, and now climate change.Take tobacco, for example. Scientists were paid to testify in court that there was no proof that smoking caused cancer or was addictive, even after the industry scientists knew darn well that cigarettes were addictive and did cause cancer and heart disease. In fact, the tobacco industry was found guilty in 2004 of plotting to conceal the health risks and addictiveness of cigarettes from the public. The judge found that the tobacco industry had “devised and executed a scheme to defraud consumers and potential consumers about the hazards of cigarettes–hazards that their own internal company documents proved they had known since the 1950s.”

The whole purpose of this scheme was to provide misinformation, to confuse the public, to manufacture doubt, and that is what is happening right now with climate change. Public data from the Security and Exchange Commission and from charitable organization reports to the IRS report showed that between 2005 and 2008, ExxonMobil gave about $9 million to groups linked to climate change denial, while foundations associated with the private oil company Koch Industries gave nearly $25 million. The third major funder was the American Petroleum Institute. All in all, the energy industry spent hundreds of millions of dollars, even billions of dollars, on lobbying against climate change legislation between 1999 and 2010, including a large spike in spending from 2008 to 2010. There have been a whole lot of people remembering that line up of suits from the Tobacco Industry — saying under oath that there was no scientific proof of a link between tobacco and cancer. No sir no link. I remember seeing the film of these guys lying their asses off — while most of us knew they were lying. These guys never did go to jail for lying to congress. Well neither did the NSA guys in military uniforms go to jail for perjury to Congress. If you or I told big lying whoopers like the tobacco guys or the Wall Street guys or the NSA guys — we would get tossed in jail so fast. . . . . Two laws — one for them and one for us. Now the politicians in several states are demanding that kids are supposed to ignore science — scientific research — scientific methods — and just believe. There is going to be a whole generation of kids who aren’t going to believe anything adults tell them.

What these stupid Oklahoma politicians are doing is beyond their religious believes. Rather I’m betting that the oh so passionate politicians are getting money — campaign contributions etc. Which would make the anti science politicians sort of kind of like prostitutes. Seems to me anyway.
